Introduction
Jim Witt’s HOPE for Youth Foundation donated backpacks, loaded with Peekskill High School’s list of recommended school supplies, to the entire incoming freshman class, 280 students. HFYF partnered with Supplies for Success in procuring the backpacks and supplies.
Significance of Backpack Donations
Backpacks are a critical part of being a student today. It’s the most efficient way to keep books and essential supplies available to students throughout the school day as they move from classroom to classroom.
HOPE for Youth Foundation’s Role
Founded in 1986, HFYF has pursued the goal of improving the lives of children throughout the Hudson Valley. Through scholarships, grants to local charitable organizations and the back pack donation, HFYF meets its mandate to help kids.
HFYF formed an action committee to evaluate a handful of high schools in the Hudson Valley that would most benefit by the donation. Need was evaluated on the basis of Title 1 funding levels along with the socio-economic makeup of the student body.
Supplies for Success (a 501(c)3) partnered with HFYF by providing the backpacks and supplies at a very low cost.
Future Initiatives and How to Help
HFYF conducts various fundraisers throughout the year, including; Jim Witt’s Weather Calendar sales, annual golf outing, annual tennis event, rare bourbon raffle and fine jewelry raffle.

Conclusion
A significant percentage of the incoming PHS class would not be able to afford to purchase a new backpack and the necessary school supplies to facilitate their success. Without discriminating between “haves and have nots”, HFYF benefitted those children that need the most help.
